Over the years, distracted driving has become a major cause of auto accidents. Why have distracted driving accidents been on the rise? It’s likely because nearly everyone has a phone.

Phones are made to be distracting. Notifications draw people’s attention so that companies can display ads and make money. But, it’s also a large issue for people that are driving.

To help reduce the risk of distracted driving accidents, there are a few things that you can do. Here’s what you should know:

Limit your notifications

Many phone distractions occur when someone gets a notification. Most notifications with chime or display a banner indicating that someone is calling, texting or emailing the recipient. When drivers see or hear that notification, they may unconsciously look at their phones, even if they are driving.

One way to prevent an accident is to reduce the amount of notifications someone gets. This option can be changed in most phone settings. If a driver can’t see they received a message or call, then it can help reduce screen time while driving.

Put your phone in the glove box

Some drivers may still look at their phones after worrying that they missed an important phone call or text. If you’re still having issues looking at your phone while driving, you could consider placing it in the car’s glove box. Limiting your access to your phone could help reduce distracted driving accidents.

Turn off your phone

Finally, if you’re still having issues with distracted driving, you could turn off your phone. That way you can’t see if you received any calls or texts until you’ve stopped driving.

While you may be practicing safe driving techniques, many drivers are still unaware that distracting driving is dangerous. If you’ve been injured in an accident, you may need to learn about your legal options.
