All drivers count on the others on the roads to help boost their safety while they’re driving. While many drivers take this seriously, there are some who take risks as they drive.  One particular risk that’s atrocious because it can claim many lives is drunk driving. There is never an excuse for a driver to drive after they’ve had any alcohol.

Unfortunately, people often opt to drive after drinking. Because these individuals are a danger to you, it is imperative that you know how to spot them so you can avoid them. Remember to watch for these signs of drunk drivers:

  • Driving erratically or aggressively
  • Driving very fast or slow
  • Crossing the center line or weaving between lanes
  • Hitting roadside objects or coming close to hitting them
  • Driving without lights on from dusk to dawn
  • Failing to obey traffic signs and signals
  • Using the turn signal inappropriately or not at all

If you see drivers who are exhibiting those signs or if you have a feeling someone is impaired, try your best to stay away from them. Try to contact the police if possible so that they can attempt to stop the drunk driver, but don’t put yourself in danger to do this.

It’s possible that you’ll get struck by a drunk driver. If you do, be sure to contact the authorities and get the medical care that you need. These are important for several reasons, one of which is that you may need this documentation if you choose to seek compensation for the financial damages you incur due to the wreck. An attorney can help you better understand your legal options once you’ve begun to recover.
