Traffic jams are the subject of nightmares for many drivers, partly because of the frustration of being unable to travel as they want. These can be frustrating situations that can sometimes lead to drivers becoming aggressive or driving in an unsafe manner.

Remembering these tips may be beneficial if you find yourself driving in heavy traffic

1. Pick a lane

Some drivers try to weave through lanes in an effort to hurry up their travel. This might shave a couple of minutes off your trip, but it’s very unsafe. Instead, pick a lane and stick to it so you can increase your chance of remaining safe through the heavy traffic.

2. Always use your turn signal

If you have to change lanes or get off the roadway, be sure you use your turn signal. This gives all drivers behind you a chance to prepare for you to move into another lane or onto an exit.

3. Avoid distractions

Even when traffic isn’t moving, you should still remain vigilant. Heavy traffic, including when there’s a complete traffic jam, isn’t a time to read a book or check your phone. Instead, stay focused on what’s going on around your vehicle.

Even if you’re driving as safely as possible, there’s a chance that you’ll be struck by another driver. This can lead to serious injuries, so you may need to get medical care. It’s possible to seek compensation from any parties that hold liability in these cases, but there’s a strict time limit for doing this. Seeking the assistance of someone who understands these cases may be beneficial so they can get the case moving forward.
